Coffee-Direct x Greenspark – Fighting Plastic Pollution
We are thrilled to be working with Greenspark, a brilliant initiative that aims to tackle some of the greatest environmental challenges facing the world today through a variety of projects.
For every order made at Coffee-Direct, three plastic bottles are recovered by the Plastic Bank initiative.
Greenspark’s projects include plastic bottle rescue and ethical recycling, the planting of trees, kelp restoration clean water provision and the building of beehives to promote biodiversity.
These planet positive projects are vetted and verified to ensure the greatest possible social and environmental impact.
How Your Order Helps to Fight Plastic Pollution
We are working with Greenspark and the Plastic Bank initiative to fight plastic pollution by ethically recovering and recycling ocean-bound plastic, preventing these plastics from reaching our waterways, while also reducing the need for new plastic.
Plastic pollution is one of the greatest threats to our oceans and marine life, with the United Nations estimating that every year 8 million tonnes of plastic waste ends up in waterways. If we continue to consume and discard single-use plastics at this rate, by 2050 there could be more plastic in our ocean than fish.
In partnership with Plastic Bank, Greenspark are transforming plastic into empowering income by building ethical recycling ecosystems in coastal communities, while simultaneously creating positive economic opportunities for those who helped collect it.
By building ethical recycling ecosystems in coastal communities, Plastic Bank prevents ocean-bound plastic while providing sustainable income. Collected plastic is sorted, weighed, and exchanged for digital tokens, which are redeemable for essentials such as food, fuel, education, and healthcare.
