This strong Indonesian coffee comes from Sumatra, the second largest of the Indonesian islands, and is considered among the finest examples from the region. Indonesia itself is the fourth largest coffee producer in the world, and the longitude and latitude of the country make for particularly well suited micro-climates in producing a diverse, flavoursome variety of beans. In fact, depending on the region, Indonesian coffees are known to be imbued with flavours of cocoa, smoke, cedar wood, earth and tobacco, and there are varieties of both arabica and robusta beans produced in great quantities. Our Blue Sumatra is smooth and aromatic, with a well balanced spiciness that is typical of Sumatran coffees, while a full body and a little acidity provides a delightful hint of intensity, making this a pleasure to drink from a cafetiere, filter, or as an espresso. I have found my new favourite! My son bought me the Christmas box and I am still working my way through the 60g samples. I visited the website and watch several videos. Decided to order Blue Sumatra whole beans on a subscription. The package arrived very quickly and I have ground just over 200g and separated and vacuum packed the rest of the beans. Will never change from this coffee. Originally tried it 3yrs ago due it appearing in an episode of Breaking Bad and the conversation about blue Sumatran being the best in the world. Stunning flavour, not too strong. Family, friends, tradesman all complement its flavour.

Usually I use Golden Crema but I tried to add to Blue Sumatra to add to a even stronger taste. It worked! I use the two, one third, two thirds with the Crema the latter. Very pleasing. JL.

Very similar to Old Brown Java but with much less obvious oil on the beans. It has an aerated crema almost similar to OBJ in that after a timed extraction the amount of raw coffee in the cup will diminish somewhat due to the amount of air produced from the extraction.
This is quite a heavy coffee so a standard double shot ie. 18g/20g of ground coffee packs quite a punch. Think I'll try something less bold next time as a single shot doesn't quite cut it. Perhaps if it wasn't roasted quite so long it may reveal more subtle flavours rather than possibly being hidden by the roast or the heaviness it currently has. However, if you like a well roasted big and bold bean it should be just up your street.
Taste is perfect for me. Good aroma, with good flavour that is mellow and not bitter.
