How to Recycle Your Coffee-Direct Bags

At Coffee-Direct, we are always conscious of our environmental impact with regard to packaging and distribution, looking for ways that we can improve our processes wherever possible with the aim of reducing our carbon footprint across all areas of our business.

One of the main areas we have been focusing on is our coffee and tea bags, and we are happy to be able to provide packaging that our customers can recycle via the Flexible Plastic Fund and Terracycle.

Coffee Direct Bags

Our Coffee Bags
In order to preserve the wonderful flavours and rich aromas of our freshly roasted coffees, we require a bag that protects the beans, whether whole or pre-ground, from exposure to outside elements; oxygen, moisture and temperature changes can all have an unwanted effect on roasted coffee. This is why it is so important that our coffee bags are designed in a way that keeps our coffees fresh and full of flavour, while also being environmentally friendly.

Our foil fresh bags come with a clever one-way CO2 valve that ensures the delicious flavours and aromas are preserved, from the point of roasting to being opened up at home.

Flexible Plastic Fund and Terracycle

We've been working towards fully sustainable packaging across our range for many years, offering fully recyclable boxes and bags wherever possible. Our coffee and tea bags can be recycled at many supermarkets across the UK in association with the Flexible Plastic Fund and via Terracycle.

While many local authorities offer kerbside recycling for multi-layer packaging, not all currently do so, and advice on the process can be misleading. Thankfully, the Flexible Plastic Fund has been set up to simplify soft plastic recycling, making it convenient to recycle complicated packaging solutions such as coffee and tea pouches.

  • The Flexible Plastic Fund provides a range of flexible plastic collection points in-store at various locations across the UK, providing visitors with the facilities to recycle flexible plastic into the highest quality materials possible.
  • Terracycle is different from the standard local kerbside recycler; the service instead provides recycling solutions for waste streams that are not typically locally recyclable.

Through these two innovative recycling solutions, we are happy that we are able to provide recyclable packaging as part of our ongoing plans to continually reduce our carbon footprint.
